Women’s Rights Protest in Kyrgyzstan Bishkek On March 8, a peaceful march for women’s rights was held in Bishkek Kyrgyzstan. The march began at the Sports Palace and ended at the Urkuya Salieva memorial.

During protest Activists condemned violence against women and children, as well as harassment, early marriages, and bride abductions. They urged gender equality in the workplace, free speech, and children’s education.

The activists demanded that the government establish a special state and create a national plan on measures to end bride-snatching and domestic violence.

In recent years, the nation has seen a number of high-profile, fatal instances of bride snatching and domestic abuse. According to the Interior Ministry, more than 10,000 cases of domestic abuse against women are formally reported each year.
